The First Reason: You Need To Be Born Again
Reason 1 – God made You
Man is a product of the Divine. Regardless of your class, gender, and religion God made you and every other human being.
God created man and the world, and preserves both for His own glory. God is prior and distinct from creation:
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11).
According to the Bible, God alone is responsible for the universe, and its coming into being through the agency of His Word and the Spirit:
“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth” (Psalm 33:6; cf. 104:30).
“Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? And where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made” (Isaiah 66:2a; cf. Job 41:11; Exodus 19:5).
As to how He created the world, God commanded, and they were created (cf. Psalm 148:5):
“For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast” (Psalm 33:9).
Fortunately, God has provided enough information about Himself, and it is all written in one book, the Bible – God leaves no loose ends:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:212).
There is no God but the God subsisting as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God is personal and self-disclosed. He is the living God in contradistinction to the dead and dumb idols and images made by man.
As the one and only true God, He presents Himself to man as one God in three persons – He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit:
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5).
The three persons are self-distinctive in the one and only true God – the Father is wholly God; the Son is wholly God, and the Holy Spirit is wholly God; irrespective, there are not three God’s, but one:
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word (the Son or Jesus Christ), and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one” (1 John 5:7; cf. John 1:1; Mathew 28:19).
For example, the triune God revealed Himself at the baptism of the Son – the Father spoke from heaven, the Son was by the edge of the water, and the Holy Spirit like a dove was upon Him:
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Mathew 3:16-17).
All blessings come from the Father through the Son, and by the Holy Spirit to all creatures:
“But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him” (1 Corinthians 8:6).
God is so great He has many names, but “Jehovah (Yahweh, YHWH),” or “Lord” is His personal name.
The God of the Bible and of the universe does not just exist, but He is the God-with-us, and – He is the living God. By this divine name (s), every man is to know that God is indeed personal, sovereign, active, and separate from all others.
Now, by His own free-will, God created man male and female in His own image and likeness:
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:26-27; cf. Hebrews 4:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:23).
The loving hands of God made man: – First, there was the assembling of the material, the fine dust of the earth, then the fashioning and inbreathing out of which came the first man (Adam):
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7; cf. Job 10:11 ).
And out of the first man, God made the first female and Adam named her woman. Later, he named her Eve:
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living” (Genesis 3:20).
Man is God’s masterpiece – we are the works of His hands. Like the potter, God worked with His hands:
“But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand (Isaiah 64:8).
Job describes our creation in the following:
“Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews: (Job 10:11).
The physical and the spiritual makeup of man were instantaneously and immediately created.
The soul is the life of the body and the spirit, the life of the soul:
“But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding” (Job 32:8; cf. Zechariah 12:1).
In some wonderful way, man is similar to God without being equal to Him – man is not God, but godlike. God has no equal:
“To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? Saith the Holy One” (Isaiah 40:25; 43:7; Deuteronomy 32:18).
Image and likeness makes us (man) resemble God spiritually without being physically like Him (for more on this, read “The Sin Virus: Who will survive.”
For the purpose to which man was created, according to the word of God - the Bible, God created both man and the universe for His own glory:
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelations 4:11).
“This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise” (Isaiah 43:21).
The pleasure and glory of God is His Son Jesus Christ: “Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delights . . .” (Isaiah 42:2).
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the Word (who He was prior to His incarnation) by whom our universe and all its contents were made. Nothing exists without His influence:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:1-3).
All that belongs to God the Father belongs to the Son: “All Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them” (John 17:10):
“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:16).
Now, after our first parents Adam and Eve were created, God gave them dominion over all the works of His hands with just one prohibition:
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat” (Genesis 1:28-29).
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:8-9, 16-17).
In the beginning, man was as holy as the Maker wanted us to be – holy man was pure and upright and lived in the presence of the Holy and just God.
Today, if the world is in a terrible shape, you should know that there was a time when the world was in perfect peace and tranquility.
The forces threatening our very existence such as nuclear holocaust, just war, climate hazards, poverty, viral pandemic, social unrest, political creed, lying, earthly cleansing, disease, infirmities, failures, shame, and death were unknown because they never existed – the earth was clothed in peace and joy.
Man knew no other god(s) besides the one and only true God, who created all things. Idols, graven images, numerology, astrology, cults, spiritism, devil worship and all other forms of man-made religions were unknown.
God and man lived together in understanding, happiness, trust, and love. Man and God were the best of friends and enjoyed mutual fellowship. Man was obedient until he became corrupted by sin entered.
Man was made to live forever in the blissfulness of the Creator.
